What is Active & Passive voice?

Active and passive are two different ways of expressing the same idea in a sentence. In the active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action expressed by the verb, while in the passive voice, the subject of the sentence receives the action expressed by the verb.

For example, consider the following sentence:

Active voice: John wrote a letter.

Passive: The letter was written by Giovanni.

In the active voice, “John” is the subject of the sentence and performs the act of writing a letter.In a passive sentence, the “letter” is the subject of the sentence and is given the action of being written by John. The active voice is generally preferred in most writings because it is more direct, clearer, and emphasizes the person or thing performing the action. The passive voice is often used in situations where the doer of the action is unimportant or when the doer wants to emphasize the subject or recipient of the action. However, excessive use of the passive voice can lead to verbosity and ambiguity in writing.
